Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Mila Kunis, and Scarlett Johansson
know a thing or two about turning heads (and breaking hearts) – they
are some of the sexiest women in the world, after all. Here’s how to
steal their most smoldering makeup looks.
NOT-SO-SMOKY EYES
For those intimidated by heavy smoky
eyes, Megan Fox’s softer version delivers the same sultry effect. Line
the inner rims with black or brown liner, then smudge along the top
outer corners. Apply a wash of champagne (such as CoverGirl Eye
Enhancers in Champagne) across the lids and blend. Using the same
shadow, line the lower lashes and place a dot at the inner corners to
instantly brighten up eyes. Individual falsies placed at the outer
corners finish the look, says makeup artist Susie Sobol.
RED LIPS AND PINK CHEEKS
“Red lips are nothing new,” Sobol says.
“But what makes Emma Watson’s look so modern is pairing them with pink
cheeks.” To get the most natural, just-rolled-around-in-the-hay flush,
swirl a pink blush, such as Nars Blush in Gaiety, below the apples, over
the center of the cheeks, she says. Paint on a true red lip color with a
lip brush—we like Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture Pure Colour
Satiny Radiance Lipstick SPF 15 in 01. For a long-wearing finish, try
Sobol’s trick: “Hold a tissue over the lips, tap loose powder over the
tissue, and then peel it away. It takes away shine and makes the color
last for hours.”
SHADOWY CAT EYES
Mila Kunis’s diffused cat eyes somehow
look both soft and bold, and just the right amount of slept-in. To get
the look, rim the inside of the eyes with a black pencil (try Estée
Lauder Artist’s Eye Pencil in SoftSmudge Black), smudging along the
lower lash line. Then brush a neutral shadow into the crease, says
makeup artist Meredith Baraf. Next, dot the outer corners with liner.
Using a Q-tip, drag the mark outward half an inch. Lightly dip an angled
eye-shadow brush into a soft black shade like M.A.C. Eye Shadow in
Print and swipe on top. Blend with a fluffy brush and pile on tons of
mascara.
ROSY LIPS
We’re usually too busy gushing over Rosie Huntington-Whiteley‘s
insane body to notice her makeup, but the jolt of bright pink on her
lips has officially gotten our attention. To steal her just-bitten look,
first exfoliate lips with a scrub, like Fresh Sugar Lip Polish, to get
rid of any dry flakes. Then apply a vivid, rosy lipstick, like Dior Addict Lipstick in It Pink. “Make sure you pat and blot with a tissue so the color doesn’t look too heavy before topping with a clear balm,” Baraf says.
GLISTENING SHADOW
Scarlett Johansson’s sparkle-flecked
shadow might be sheer, but it definitely doesn’t go unnoticed. Get it by
lining the outer corners of the eyes with only black shadow, then
sweeping a sheer glittery layer (think Nars Night Series Eyeshadow in
Night Star) over the lids and up to the brow bones, Baraf says. To make
the eyes appear even brighter, line the lower inner rims with a nude
pencil. Plump up lashes with a few coats of volumizing mascara—Baraf’s
favorite is L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Mascara in Carbon Black—and you’re as good as gold.
SILVER METALLIC SMOKY EYES
We’re not usually fans of drama, but we’ll make an exception for Jessica Alba‘s
smoldering eyes. “The silver shadow opens them up and makes them look
so much bigger,” Baraf says. To get the look, define the inner rims with
black liner, smudging at the corners. Then dust a gunmetal shadow
(L’Oréal Paris Wear Infinité Studio Secrets Professional Eye Shadow in
Pure Silver is a gorgeous option) across lids, blending upward, then
underneath the eyes. Sweep a neutral brown, such as Burberry Beauty
Sheer Eye Shadow in Midnight Brown, into the crease. Sweep metallic
shadow underneath the eyes toward the outer corners, and finish with a
coat of volumizing mascara like Maybelline New York The Colossal Volum’
Express Mascara.
DEWY, NUDE LIPS
Camilla Belle and her
nonthreateningly kissable lips are downright irresistible. Steal her
look by putting on a peachy nude lipstick like M.A.C. Lipstick in
Freckletone. Finish with a dot of clear gloss on the middle of the lips,
but avoid anything with shimmer or sparkle. “That would take the sexy
out of Camilla’s look,” Baraf says. “The lips should look naturally
moist, not supershiny or sticky.”
TWO-TONE EYES: METALLIC
A glint of silver below the eyes has a
dazzling effect on Frieda Pinto. As always, keep the eyeliner close to
the lashes, and consider lining the inner rims with black, says Sobol.
“Then take a shadow that’s a shade or two lighter and blend out. You
want to get a subtle gradation of color.” And the perfect palette for
creating this shimmery scheme? Dior 5-Couleurs Designer All-in-One
Artistry Palette in Smoky Design.
BLACK CHERRY LIPS
Kate Bosworth’s vampy pout requires
precise application, Sobol says. “When you’re going this dark, you need
to follow your exact lip shape.” Apply color straight from the tube (Tom
Ford Private Blend Lip Color in Bruised Plum is bold without being
outrageous), press your lips together, and blot with a tissue. Then
perfect the line around your mouth with a lip brush. “You want the color
to look stamped on,” she says. Worn with flawless skin and perfectly
arched brows, it’s all you need to make a scene.
