Aamir Khan donates Rs11 lakhs to support 16th Mumbai Film Fest

Actor and producer, Aamir Khan has pledged his support for the 16th Mumbai Film Festival by donating Rs11 lakh. The artists expressed his support via his Twitter account and requested others to do the same.
The Mumbai Academy of Moving Images (MAMI) owed thanks to the social media after it received tremendous support from Bollywood celebrities as well as directors from across the world.

The campaign that aims at saving the festival has been organized by MAMI. It has gained impetus from other film fraternity members like actor Kamal Haasan, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, producers Manish Mundra, director Hansal Mehta and critic Anupama Chopra.
Many international directors and film makers are also supporting the campaign.
Cameron Bailey, artistic director of Toronto International Film Festival, said, "Mumbai is one of the most exciting film cities in the world and it deserves a strong film festival. I hope everyone can offer their support to help keep the door open for a celebration of global cinema in Mumbai every year."
Roger Garcia, executive director, Hong Kong International Film Festival said, “The Mumbai Film festival fills an important gap in the Indian Film Festival landscape. It brings the international perspective of films and filmmakers right into the heart of the Bollywood industry adding to its cosmopolitan atmosphere of vibrant creativity.”
Dorothee Wenner, filmmaker, curator, and programmer, Berlinale, Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) said, “It is wonderful to follow from far-away Berlin the kind of support MAMI gets these days: so many people actively fighting for a film festival with the proud tradition of celebrating cinema’s diversity is encouraging for cinephiles from around the world. Keep going!”
Witnessing the overwhelming support, festival director, Mr. Srinivasan Narayan showing his gratitude towards the film fraternity said, “We would like to thank each and everyone who have contributed in their own way. The festival has now grown stronger than ever.”
Founded in 1997 by late filmmaker Shri Hrishikesh Mukherjee, MAMI is a trust which comprises of Indian film industry stalwarts. The body is headed by director and screenwriter Shri Shyam Benegal and includes famous names like Ramesh Sippy, Karan Johar and Farhan Akhtar among many others.
